Learn Dance online

Dance lessons online work best when the camera is set up properly, so the first session usually includes getting your space and angle right. After that, teachers work on the fundamentals that carry every style — weight transfer, isolation, musicality and counting — before layering choreography. Styles depend on the teacher and include hip hop, contemporary, jazz, ballet basics, K-pop choreography, salsa and bachata, and general stage movement for singers. Lessons can be technique-driven, choreography-driven, or aimed at a specific performance, audition or event such as a first dance.

What you'll learn

  • Counting music in eights and hitting accents in the choreography
  • Weight transfer, balance and body isolations
  • Style-specific fundamentals: grooves, lines, turns and footwork
  • Learning and retaining choreography quickly
  • Musicality — dancing to the arrangement rather than just the beat
  • Performance quality: eyeline, facial expression and projection
  • Warm-ups, mobility and injury prevention for regular training

How lessons work here

  1. Find a teacher. Browse profiles with headline, country, spoken languages, experience, credentials and student reviews. Every public profile has been verified before it goes live.
  2. Book a slot. Teachers publish real availability, including exceptions and holidays. You pick a time and the booking is confirmed against that calendar, so double-bookings are blocked at database level.
  3. Join the lesson room. Lessons run in the browser with live video and audio — nothing to install. Audio settings are tuned for instruments and voice rather than speech-only calls.
  4. Use the tools built for this subject. The lesson room includes a live pitch monitor that draws the note you are actually singing or playing; a shared metronome and an instrument tuner; an on-screen piano keyboard (with Web MIDI), guitar fretboard and drum sequencer; notation and chord charts on the shared whiteboard; file sharing so you can send recordings and backing tracks before the lesson.
  5. Get homework and keep the thread. Teachers set tasks with attachments and deadlines, comment on what you submit, and keep a shared learning plan you can both see between lessons.
  6. Track progress. Attendance and a simple lesson rating are recorded by the teacher, quizzes are graded on the server, and a progress report can be generated for you — or for a parent or guardian.

Who it's for

  • Beginners who want to move confidently without formal training
  • Singers and performers adding movement to their stage act
  • Couples preparing a wedding first dance or a specific event routine

Teachers work with complete beginners, intermediate players rebuilding technique, and advanced students preparing auditions, exams or recordings. Levels are agreed in the first lesson rather than assumed.

Levels and lesson formats

  • One-to-one lessons — the standard format, usually 30, 45 or 60 minutes.
  • Recurring weekly slots — booked from the teacher's live availability calendar.
  • Group workshops — teachers can run scheduled workshops with limited places and a waiting list.
  • Trial or one-off sessions — useful for a single problem, an exam panic or checking the fit before committing.

Lesson length, cancellation notice and any price are set by each teacher and shown on their profile before you book. Teachers can also share materials, quizzes and certificates of completion with public verification.

Frequently asked questions

How much space do I need?

Roughly two by two metres of clear floor and a camera far enough back to show your whole body. Teachers help you set this up in the first lesson.

Does video delay ruin dance lessons?

Teachers work around it: they demonstrate, you dance, then you both review. Counting out loud and slowed-down repetitions keep everything aligned.

Am I too old or too stiff to start?

No. Teachers scale mobility demands to your body and prioritise safe warm-ups. Many adult students start with zero training.

Can I learn a specific choreography from a music video?

Yes — send the reference and your teacher will break it down section by section at reduced tempo.
