Learning on SingArena: how a student account works

A SingArena student account is the learner side of SingArena School. It is free to create, it works in the browser, and it gives you access to verified one-to-one teachers across music and instruments, languages, school and university subjects, creative skills and practical life skills. Everything that happens around a lesson — booking, homework, materials, notes, quizzes, certificates and progress — stays in one place attached to your lesson history, so you are not chasing files across email and chat apps.

What a student account gets you

  • Access to every verified teacher, with profiles showing subjects, experience, spoken languages, credentials, reliability and student reviews.
  • Real availability and instant booking, validated against the teacher's own calendar so a confirmed slot is genuinely free.
  • A browser lesson room with live video, screen sharing and shared teaching tools: whiteboard, documents, equation editor, graphing, code editor, periodic table, flashcards, quizzes, an on-screen piano, a fretboard, a drum sequencer, a metronome, a tuner and a live pitch monitor.
  • Homework with attachments and comments, so feedback happens between lessons and not only during them.
  • A shared learning plan you and your teacher can both see and tick off.
  • Materials shared by your teacher — PDFs, audio, scores, worksheets — in your own materials library.
  • Quizzes graded on the server and certificates of completion with a public verification link.
  • Progress reports covering attendance, lesson ratings and topics covered, shareable with a parent or guardian.
  • Group workshops run by teachers, with limited places and an automatic waiting list.
  • Practice tools outside lessons — the same instruments, metronome, tuner and flashcards are available to use on your own between sessions.

How to start in three steps

  1. Create your free account. You need an email address and to be at least 13 years old. Learners under 18 also need verified guardian consent, described below.
  2. Find a teacher. Browse the teacher directory or start from a subject page such as singing, guitar, English or mathematics. Message the teacher first if you want to check fit, exam board or level.
  3. Book your first lesson. Pick a slot from the teacher's calendar, note their cancellation policy, and join the lesson room from your browser at the scheduled time.

Free versus paid

Two different things are often confused, so to be explicit:

  • The student account is free. Browsing, messaging teachers, receiving materials, doing homework, taking quizzes, viewing progress reports and using the practice tools cost nothing.
  • Lessons are priced by the teacher. Each teacher sets their own rate, currency and lesson lengths, shown on their profile. Prices are informational and agreed between you and the teacher.
  • SingArena Premium is a separate product for the karaoke and music side of the app (things like ad-free listening and extra singing features). It is not required to take lessons, and it is not a lesson subscription.
  • Trial and one-off lessons are available from teachers who offer them, which is the cheapest way to check whether a teacher suits you.

Parents and guardians

Accounts start at 13. Any learner under 18 must have verified guardian consent before lessons can be booked, and the process is designed to leave an auditable record rather than to tick a box.

  • The learner enters a guardian email address. The guardian receives a unique, single-use link that expires after seven days.
  • Consent is recorded with the exact consent text, its version, the timestamp, IP address and user agent.
  • The guardian gets a view of upcoming and past lessons and can cancel a booking themselves.
  • The guardian can message the teacher directly in a separate guardian-to-teacher thread. The learner's own private chat with the teacher is not exposed to the guardian.
  • Progress reports covering attendance, lesson ratings and topics can be viewed by the guardian.
  • No payment details are part of the consent step, and consent can be withdrawn.

Frequently asked questions

Does a student account cost anything?

No. Creating an account, browsing teachers, messaging them and using the practice tools is free. What you pay for is the lessons themselves, at the price each teacher sets and agrees with you.

What do I need to join a lesson?

A browser, a webcam and a microphone. Nothing is installed. Headphones are strongly recommended for music and language lessons because they prevent echo, and instrumentalists get better results from an audio interface than from a laptop microphone.

Can I change teacher or subject later?

Yes. You are not tied to one teacher or one subject. Many students take two subjects with different teachers, and switching costs nothing.

What happens if I need to cancel a lesson?

Each teacher publishes a cancellation notice period on their profile. Cancel before that window and the lesson is simply cancelled; cancel inside it and it is recorded as a late cancellation. Teachers can also cancel, and you will be notified.

Are lessons recorded?

Only when both sides agree. Where recording is enabled, the recording is stored privately and linked to that lesson, and markers can be added so you can jump back to the moment a technique was explained.

Can a parent see what is happening?

For learners under 18, yes. The verified guardian gets their own view of upcoming and past lessons, can cancel a booking and can message the teacher in a dedicated guardian thread.
