Learn Law online

Law tutoring focuses on the reasoning method rather than on memorising rules. Students learn to apply a structure — identify the issue, state the rule, apply it to the facts, conclude — and to use authority accurately, because a good answer without a case citation loses marks. Coverage depends on the tutor's jurisdiction and typically includes contract, tort, criminal, constitutional and EU or public law, along with legal skills like case briefing, statutory interpretation and OSCOLA referencing. Problem questions and essay questions are treated as separate skills because they are marked very differently.

What you'll learn

  • IRAC-style problem question structure applied to complex fact patterns
  • Case briefing: extracting the ratio and distinguishing precedent
  • Statutory interpretation and the rules courts use
  • Core areas such as contract, tort, criminal and constitutional law
  • Essay questions: critical evaluation rather than description of the law
  • Referencing and citation conventions including OSCOLA
  • Exam and assessment timing, including open-book strategy

How lessons work here

  1. Find a teacher. Browse profiles with headline, country, spoken languages, experience, credentials and student reviews. Every public profile has been verified before it goes live.
  2. Book a slot. Teachers publish real availability, including exceptions and holidays. You pick a time and the booking is confirmed against that calendar, so double-bookings are blocked at database level.
  3. Join the lesson room. Lessons run in the browser with live video and audio — nothing to install. Screen sharing and shared tools sit alongside the video.
  4. Use the tools built for this subject. The lesson room includes a shared whiteboard with an equation editor; a graphing tool for plotting functions and data; a collaborative code editor for programming work; an interactive periodic table and reference charts; flashcards and server-graded quizzes for revision.
  5. Get homework and keep the thread. Teachers set tasks with attachments and deadlines, comment on what you submit, and keep a shared learning plan you can both see between lessons.
  6. Track progress. Attendance and a simple lesson rating are recorded by the teacher, quizzes are graded on the server, and a progress report can be generated for you — or for a parent or guardian.

Who it's for

  • Law undergraduates and conversion-course students
  • A-level and IB law students
  • Applicants preparing law admissions tests and interviews

Levels and lesson formats

  • One-to-one lessons — the standard format, usually 30, 45 or 60 minutes.
  • Recurring weekly slots — booked from the teacher's live availability calendar.
  • Group workshops — teachers can run scheduled workshops with limited places and a waiting list.
  • Trial or one-off sessions — useful for a single problem, an exam panic or checking the fit before committing.

Lesson length, cancellation notice and any price are set by each teacher and shown on their profile before you book. Teachers can also share materials, quizzes and certificates of completion with public verification.

Frequently asked questions

Which jurisdiction do tutors cover?

It varies — profiles state whether they teach English and Welsh law, EU law, or another system. Check before booking.

Is this legal advice?

No. These are academic lessons about legal principles and exam technique. Tutors cannot advise on your personal legal situation.

How do I stop describing the law instead of analysing it?

By practising against real mark schemes. Tutors show which sentences earn analysis marks and which are treated as background.

Can you help with problem questions specifically?

Yes — issue spotting is a trainable skill, and it is one of the most requested topics.
