The former Black Midi frontman has denied the allegations, which surfaced during a show in Vancouver, as multiple U.S. dates are scrapped.

A Tour in Turmoil

The North American tour for Geordie Greep, the former frontman of the acclaimed British rock band Black Midi, has been thrown into uncertainty. Several performances on his U.S. run have been cancelled following allegations of sexual misconduct made against the singer, which he has categorically denied.

According to reports, as of October 10, Greep's sets in Boise, Salt Lake City, Boulder, Denver, and Omaha have either been listed as cancelled on each venue's website or have been removed from listings entirely. The cancellations mark a sudden halt to what was set to be a significant stateside solo tour.

The Allegations and On-Stage Response

The controversy began to unfold at a show in Vancouver on October 8, where an attendee reportedly handed out flyers claiming the singer had committed an act of sexual misconduct. Greep later addressed the allegations directly from the stage, offering his perspective on the incident.

"So essentially what happened last night, me and some of the band, we went out to some bars, we went around, we met people, and ended up in a situation where, really late at a house party, I got the wrong end of the stick with someone that was there, and I made a move, and it didn’t come off and I really quickly, of course, apologized," he told the crowd.

He continued, stating, "It was a complete misunderstanding on my part, and I felt extremely bad, and I feel extremely sorry, and am extremely upset about the whole situation. I would never rape a woman. I’m not a rapist. It’s not how that went down."

During that same performance, Greep noted that he would perform the show solo in order to avoid forcing his band to play "in light of [what was] happening." He also stated that proceeds from the gig would benefit an organization that supports victims of sexual violence.

Remaining Dates and the Solo Transition

While the bulk of the U.S. tour has been affected, one remaining performance in Des Moines is still scheduled to take place. Additionally, a brief run of dates in Europe scheduled for November is currently set to go ahead as planned. Greep has not released a formal statement regarding the cancellations themselves, and representatives for the artist have not yet commented publicly on the matter.

From Black Midi to The New Sound

The news arrives at a pivotal moment in Greep's career. Born in Walthamstow, London, the musician first rose to prominence as the frontman and lead guitarist of Black Midi, a band that became a defining force in the British rock scene often associated with the Windmill venue in Brixton.

Greep formed Black Midi alongside Matt Kwasniewski-Kelvin, Cameron Picton, and Morgan Simpson after meeting at the BRIT School. The group signed to Rough Trade Records in 2019 and released three critically acclaimed studio albums: Schlagenheim, Cavalcade, and Hellfire. Known for his unique singing voice and dramatic, character-driven narratives—such as in the song "John L"—Greep established himself as one of the most distinctive voices in modern experimental rock.

Following Black Midi's hiatus, Greep launched his solo career, releasing his debut album The New Sound via Rough Trade Records on October 4, 2024. The album marked a new chapter for the artist, allowing him to explore musical territories outside the framework of his former band.

The Road Ahead

The cancellation of these tour dates leaves a significant gap in Greep's promotional schedule for The New Sound. For an artist whose work often thrives on live improvisation and theatrical performance, the inability to perform in key markets is a considerable setback.

As the situation stands, Greep maintains his innocence, characterizing the incident as a misunderstanding for which he has apologized. The decision to cancel the shows in Boise, Salt Lake City, Boulder, Denver, and Omaha suggests a response to either logistical challenges or local pressure following the allegations.

For now, fans in Des Moines and Europe will still have the opportunity to see Greep perform. Whether more dates will follow or if the tour will be further affected remains to be seen as the artist navigates this serious situation.
