The Nation's Girl Group has thrown its hat into the Grammy ring with three entries for consideration, signaling a bold new chapter for Filipino music on the global stage.

A Historic Grammy Bid for the Nation's Girl Group

BINI is aiming for the global spotlight once again. The Filipino girl group has officially submitted three entries for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards, according to ABS-CBN. The submissions include their songs "Unang Kilig" and "A Parallel World," as well as a bid for the coveted Best New Artist category. While submissions for consideration do not guarantee a nomination, the move marks another significant step in the group's relentless ascent from local pop sensation to international contender.

For a group that has already broken barriers—becoming the first Filipino act to top Spotify's Philippines Daily Top Artists chart, the first Filipino pop act to perform at KCON, and the first Filipino act to win Best Asia Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards—a Grammy campaign feels like a natural progression. Yet it also underscores a broader shift: Filipino pop, or OPM, is no longer just a regional phenomenon. It is knocking on the doors of the Recording Academy.

From Star Hunt to Global Stages

Formed in 2019 through ABS-CBN's Star Hunt Academy, BINI spent three years training before their official debut on June 11, 2021. Composed of eight members—Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena—the group quickly became known for their bubblegum pop sound and polished performances. Their debut album, Born to Win, arrived in 2021, followed by Feel Good in 2022, which was later certified gold by PARI in August 2024.

But it was 2023 that truly changed everything. The single "Pantropiko" went viral on TikTok through the "Pantropiko Dance Challenge," becoming an undeniable summer anthem in the Philippines. The following year, their EP Talaarawan topped the Billboard Philippine Songs chart, and in June 2024, BINI entered Spotify's Top Artist Global Chart—a first for any Filipino artist. They also became the first Filipino act to top the Spotify Philippines Daily Top Artists chart, surpassing Taylor Swift.

International recognition followed swiftly: a performance at KCON in Los Angeles, a historic win at the MTV Europe Music Awards, and a spot on Forbes Asia's 30 Under 30 list in 2025. They surpassed one billion all-time streams on Spotify that same year and were named Billboard Philippines' Women of the Year. Then came the ultimate announcement: BINI would perform at Coachella 2026, making them the first Filipino group to do so. They took the stage on April 10, 2026.

Why the Grammy Submissions Matter

The three submissions for the 2027 Grammys reflect both the group's growth and their ambition. "Unang Kilig" and "A Parallel World" represent their evolving artistry—tracks that blend emotional depth with the polished pop production that has become their signature. The Best New Artist bid is particularly strategic: despite having been active for several years, BINI remains relatively unknown to the Western mainstream, making them eligible under the Academy's guidelines for artists who have not yet achieved widespread prominence in the U.S. market.

If nominated, BINI would join a very short list of Filipino artists who have received Grammy recognition. While the Philippines has a rich musical history, Grammy nominations for Filipino acts remain rare. The group's submission is not just a personal milestone—it is a statement that OPM can compete on the world's biggest stage.

The Road Ahead

BINI's Grammy campaign comes at a moment of peak cultural momentum. Their Coachella performance in April 2026 introduced them to a massive new audience, and their inclusion in Billboard Philippines' inaugural Global No.1 series further cemented their status as the country's leading pop act. The group's music, while rooted in bubblegum pop, has incorporated a range of genres, earning critical praise for its versatility.

Whether or not the 2027 Grammy nominations materialize, BINI's trajectory is already historic. They have redefined what is possible for a Filipino group, from topping streaming charts to selling out concerts and representing the Philippines at international festivals. Their success has also paved the way for other OPM artists, proving that language and geography need not be barriers to global success.

As the group awaits the Recording Academy's decision, fans and industry watchers alike will be watching closely. A nomination would be a victory not just for BINI, but for Filipino music as a whole. For now, the Nation's Girl Group continues to do what they do best: dream big, work hard, and bring their country along for the ride.
